RCEkoenergia is modernizing heat and electricity generation sources in Czechowice-Dziedzice

03.02.2026

RCEkoenergia, a company within the Unimot Group, will carry out a comprehensive modernization of heat and electricity generation sources at its facility in Czechowice-Dziedzice. The investment aims to phase out coal and replace it with modern, low-emission technologies based on natural gas, biomass, and renewable energy sources. The project is part of the Unimot Group’s sustainability-driven efforts, while also enhancing energy security and the flexibility of the district heating system.

As part of the first stage of the investment, two biomass-fired steam boilers, a natural gas-powered cogeneration engine, three peak-load and backup gas steam boilers, as well as an electric boiler will be built, to be used during periods of low electricity prices. In addition, an installation enabling the provision of system services will be constructed. The implementation of this stage will allow one of the currently operating coal-fired boilers to be decommissioned.

The next stage of the investment will include further expansion of biomass capacity and high-efficiency cogeneration, as well as the implementation of systems based on heat pumps and thermal energy storage. These solutions will enable the complete shutdown of the second coal-fired boiler.

“Modernizing our energy sources is another step toward a sustainable and secure energy system. We are investing in technologies that combine operational efficiency with a responsible approach to the environment,” says Włodzimierz Popielewski, president of the management board of RCEkoenergia.

The new units will produce thermal energy in the form of steam and hot water, also in combination with the simultaneous generation of electricity. The parameters of the heating water will be lowered, which will reduce transmission losses, enable further expansion of the system, and increase the use of renewable energy sources.

The investment aligns with the Unimot Group’s sustainability strategy, combining the energy transition with operational efficiency. Through the modernization of its energy sources, the company will reduce fossil fuel consumption, lower CO₂ emissions and other pollutants, while increasing the resilience of its energy system.
